How Australian Labradoodles began

The Labradoodle was first developed in the 1970’s by The Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia when they discovered a need for allergy-friendly service dogs.  The original labradoodle was a combination of either a Miniature or Standard Poodle and a Labrador Retriever.  Australian breeders worked to enhance and refine the breed even more by incorporating different types of Spaniels into their lines.  Currently and officially, the Australian Labradoodle is a combination of 3 breeds; Labrador Retriever, Miniature or Standard Poodle, and Cocker Spaniel.

What is Multigenerational?

The multigenerational aspect of the breed comes from breeding Labradoodles with Labradoodles.  With each generation, the dog's genetic makeup stabilizes and the outcomes of litters are more predictable and consistent, allowing breeders to strengthen desirable traits while weakening less desirable traits.
